Thelma and Louise in a '66 T-Bird, Molly and Sam nuzzling at a potter's wheel, Scarlett O'Hara picking through a war-torn street… Chick flicks are a dime a dozen, but the ones that get it right are priceless. Here's my top ten, guaranteed to keep your heart racing from here to eternity.
Thelma & Louise (1991)
Who among us hasn't had "one of those days"? Things go from bad to worse, and you just feel like kicking butt, shooting something, and escaping to Mexico in a classy convertible. Not an option? Ok, then watch Thelma and Louise do it in style. Tall and beautiful, Geena Davis plays Thelma, a woman whose surly hubby wants her to stay home and be quiet so he can watch football in peace. Susan Sarandon plays Louise, a streetwise waitress with her own relationship troubles. One day, the girls decide to escape their world by hanging out at a bar, but things turn ugly when Louise shoots a man threatening to rape Thelma. They realize there's no way out of this situation, so they head for Mexico and end up on the road trip from hell – no money, a trail of crime scenes behind them, and the cops in hot pursuit. All this and Brad Pitt, too, who assures Thelma that "armed robbery doesn't have to be an unpleasant experience." Sure, that's easy for him to say.
