We recently had the opportunity to sit down with former model, professional volleyball player, and mother – Gabrielle Reece.
She recently released and produced her own health & fitness products -- “Bell Express 15” -- fitness kits that take you through different targeted workouts including Strength, Fit and Slim, and the 30-Day Challenge.
As a mother herself, it was important that we asked her some advice about fitness, motherhood, and, of course, “Bell Express 15.” Here is what she had to say:
Q: What inspired you to create the Bell Express 15 minute workout kits? Was it your desire to find a quicker workout during the day, or other women’s stories?
A: It was a combination of both. The number one thing [with working out] is that there is no time. So, Bell did research and found out that people can handle 15 minutes. You know, I am not the expert…I am on this journey myself. I wanted to be able to explain how it feels and what I like about these workouts. I believe in doing positive work and the importance of exercise.
Q: What are the best ways to get back into shape right after giving birth, or perhaps two years later? I would even like to address women who have not worked out in a long period of time.
A: The “Bell Express 15” workouts are an easy way to start. My advice is don’t go to a trainer who will kill you [with the program]. I love the concept of progression – even in your home and fitness life. In terms of foods, take certain foods out from your daily diet and consume less often. Also, cut down on portions, and remove drinks such as colas. Create a habit and slowly build to maintain it. It is a leap of faith, so come into it believing in making a change, and believing in the process.
Q: What are the hardest parts about being a mom, especially in the public eye? (Gabrielle and her husband Laird Hamilton, a professional surfer, are the proud parents of two daughters: 4-year-old Reece and new baby Brody Jo.)
A: The hardest part is figuring out what I am doing, just like everyone else. In addition, guiding my children to do the right thing -- to be happy and healthy -- while not exactly knowing what the right thing is. Motherhood is about the push and pull. It is important not to lose yourself in the role.
Q: What are the easiest parts about being a mom?
A: Motherhood is the most natural thing in the world. You don’t know what love is until you have a child.
